Wanting to Work in Singapore..find out the cost of Singapore Accommodations

You landed a job in Singapore or meaning to find work, it's best to know the cost of accommodations first to work out your monthly budget or help you get a figure of your preferred salary.

It is common here to share a whole flat with friends or foreign professionals like yourself. Each Room will be occupied by a flatmate or some will even share a room which will save you a lot of cash for other expenses or to keep. Others with family will rent a whole 1-Bedroom or 2-Bedroom unit. The spare room can be used for visitors which is expected for accessible Singapore. You can also rent a room in a Flat Unit owned by a local and live with the landlord.

Housing in Singapore can be a Terrace House(landed) which will cost more but will give you more space for recreation & relaxation. You'll have a garden and backyard, a spacious living area and more bathroom to share with flatmates. The most practical monthly rent will fall around SGD 4500-5000 with 3 Bedrooms and a choice of 1-2year lease.

Another type of housing is the Private Apartments or Condominiums. If you prefer living with amenities such as swimming pool, tennis court, gym with sauna, clubhouse for those parties and gatherings plus weekend barbeque areas for the family, then this is a better option for you. There's a studio type for SGD 1500-2000, this is the lowest price but it could go higher depending on the location. A 2-bedroom unit will cost you  SGD 2300-3000, a 3-bedroom unit for SGD 3600-5500 and a 4-bedroom unit from SGD 5000.

Singapore Condominium

Let's move on to the most affordable flat type which is the HDB (Housing Development Board) Housing Estate. Approximately 80 % of Locals and foreigners live in this government housing. It's a vetical tower like a condominium less the amenities and classy finishes. The 1-Bedroom flat is about SGD 900-1300,            2-Bedroom Flat from SGD 1500 and  3-Bedroom unit from SGD 1800-2000.

HDB Neighborhood

Or just to get settled in first, you can rent a room for the monthly rent of SGD400-500 for a common room and from 700 for a Master's Bedroom. This is for the HDB Flats. It's going to be around SGD 700 for a Common bedroom and SGD 900 to 1200 for a Master's Bedroom for Condominiums. You get to share the unit with a local landlord or foreigners looking for a flatmate for a vacant room.

The Contract for renting a whole unit is usually 1 or 2 years lease with initial payment of 1-Month Deposit and 1-Month advance payment plus a one time agent's fee of half the monthly rent. For a room rental, the initial payment is the same but you can move out after a 1-month notice but others will tie you to a yearly contract.

I Hope to have enlightened some of your queries and now you can do your accounting. The Utilities (Water and Electricity) per month would range from 150-250 for 3 bedrooms with aircon, depending on usage if all are working you'll pay the basic SGD150.
