CONSUMER PROTECTION- Where to file a Complaint against a Business/Retailer

If you are an unsatisfied consumer of a product or service, you can file a complaint against the business or the retailer through a non-profit and non-government organization called CASE (Consumer Association of Singapore). They help protect consumer's interest through information and education. They handle 'Consumer to Business' complaints.Filing of complaints can be done online. They will assist you in resolving issues with retailers, they also have a Mediation Centre to encourage both consumer and retailer to resolve the issues amicably among themselves voluntarily.

If you are a tourist, you can write directly to the Singapore Tourism Board for any dispute with a retailer or vendor. My cousin visited Singapore a few years back and bought a digital camcorder. She was made to believe it is compatible with the electronic system in Manila. When it proved otherwise, she quickly emailed the Singapore Tourism Board and got a prompt response that the matter will be resolved. And as promised , after a few days the retailer wrote her to send back the camcorder and will be replaced at no cost.

If you are a  tourist in Singapore, you are entitled to a GST (Goods and Services Tax) free shopping. Whenever you shop for an item $100 (SGD) and above, keep the receipt or ask the vendor to issue you a GST refund form. You can then refund the GST at the Airport's designated GST Refund Counters near the check-in counters by showing all your GST refund forms.
