TYPES OF SCARF FOR EVERY OCCASSION

Let's get to know the different Scarf styles and the materials used to make them. These materials contribute to the effectiveness, feel and quality of the scarf. We usually base our selection on the season, color, design and touch to match any of our outfit.

SILK CHIFFON WRAF

The name comes from the Old French word for rag. Chiffon is a textile made from silk, cotton, nylon, polyester, or rayon. It tends to be sheer, with a faint shimmer and a simple weave. When held up to the light, chiffon strongly resembles closely woven netting. Although Chiffon is difficult to wear because of its slippery texture, it is still generally used in evening and formal wear, since it drapes well and can add a floaty look to gowns and dresses. You can get several forms of chiffon in varying colors from fabric stores.

Silk chiffon is the most popular type of chiffon for its rich shimmer and slick texture. Silk chiffon is also surprisingly strong for its weight.Silk chiffon is made from a natural fiber and would naturally be more expensive and preferred than syntheticsAs for most silks its hould be handwashed or dry cleaned. Silk is also used to make georgette, sometimes called crepe, a thicker and more opaque fabric which drapes and behaves like chiffon. Another natural fiber which is cotton  is sometimes used to make chiffon, and the resulting fabric is more matte and less floaty.

Synthetic materials are most commonly used to make chiffon, since most synthetics take dye well, are relatively cheap to make, and they tend to be sturdy. However, the fabric is still delicate enough that it should be hand washed with cold water only, and never run through a washing machine. Synthetics are also just as challenging to work with as silk, since they are also slippery.

formal wear, chiffon is often used as an overlay over more opaque fabrics. The chiffon floats on top, adding shimmer and texture to the dress while keeping the wearer modest. The color of the underlying fabric will also show slightly, so the chiffon is usually coordinated with the underlayer. Chiffon is used in tops, skirts, and dresses as well as in scarves, belts, and accents.

When sewing chiffon, many crafters layer tissue paper in between two piece of chiffon being sewn together. The tissue paper helps keep the chiffon together, with the rough teeth of the tissue paper holding the chiffon in place while it is handled. After sewing, the tissue paper can be carefully ripped out. Chiffon is also pinnable, as it will spring back, concealing pin marks. As a general rule, one should work slowly and steadily with chiffon, taking care not to run it through a sewing machine too quickly or it will bunch and gather.

CASHMERE WOOL

Usually simply known as cashmere, is a fiber obtained from the Cashmere goat. The word cashmere derives from an old spelling of Kashmir.

Cashmere wool is fine in texture, and it is also strong, light, and soft; when it is made into garments, they are extremely warm to wear.

Cashmere is characterized by its soft fibers. It is noted as providing a natural light-weight insulation without bulk. Fibers are highly adaptable and are easily spun into fine or thick yarns, and light to heavy-weight fabrics. The original undyed or natural colors of cashmere wool are various shades of grey, brown and white.

CASHMERE MUFFLER

A muffler is an old fashioned name for a good, warm scarf. Keeping your neck warm during the winter months with a fluffy, homemade scarf is something to appreciate. If you have a basic knowledge of crochet and can make an even single crochet stitch, then this scarf could easily be made in only a few hours' time. EVENING SCARF

When you’re deciding what to wear for your next night out on the town for some dancing and fine dining, or getting ready to attend a gala event or wedding… evening shawls can make all the difference between merely fitting in and actually turning heads.

They are the perfect compliment to your casual wardrobe and all the way up to your most beautiful evening gown.

Imagine showing up to an opera or a fine restaurant in a strapless lavender dress. Any number of things could happen. It could be overly cool in the room or someone could show up wearing a similar color and style. In either case wearing an elegant beaded evening shawl might turn an otherwise self-conscious night on the town into a great time.

It also could be that you would like to have mobility during dinner and something to wrap up in during the show. A nice light shawl can be folded into a purse during dinner and brought out in the car on the way to the theater. Not to overstate things…but in all the above cases, evening shawls are almost the perfect wardrobe accessory. They are convenient, gorgeous and practical.
Of course, you don’t have to wear them with just your dresses and gowns. Perhaps a casual meeting at a coffee shop or a night at the movies in pants and a nice blouse can be well served by a comfortable variety of wrap. Just because things are “dressed down” and informal doesn’t mean you can’t accessorize and add a little bit of complexity and intrigue to your look.

Even a cozy evening on the couch at home can be a whole lot more comfortable with a nice shawl. Rather than being covered under a blanket you can keep warm and yet remain appealing to whoever happens to be over.

As shown by the various wraps above, there are quite a few choices to choose from. You might prefer the beaded evening shawl (a top seller!). You may wish for something small that can be folded into a purse, or something long and flowing. Either way, they are all beautifull in their own way.

Remember, when you find your favorite shawl, it can go with any number of items in your closet and give you a different appearance each time. Often it is that “favorite shawl” that can become your trademark and ends up outlasting everything else in your closet…
…and for a very good reason. Evening shawls are beautiful!

PASHMINA SCARF

Pashmina scarves are making a fashionable statement as they explode in popularity today. The super soft Pashminas have that heavenly feel as well as a spectacular look. The oblong scarves have a 26 inch width and 66 inch length with an additional 4 inches of fringe on each end lengthwise. Originally Pashminas were named for the wool of a specific goat that inhabited the Himalayas in Kashmir. Today the name is used generically for scarves with similar attributes. Choose colors and add these wholesale Pashmina scarves to your basket for fashion accessories that are skyrocketing in popularity.

Pashmina refers to a type of fine cashmere wool and the textiles made from it. The name comes from Pashmineh, made from Persian pashm ("wool"). The wool comes from changthangi or pashmina goat, which is a special breed of goat indigenous to high altitudes of the Himalayas. Pashmina shawls are hand spun, woven and embroidered in Kashmir, and made from fine cashmere fibre.

A softening process is used by manufacturers of 100% pashmina products, which gives the pashmina a soft, almost silken quality. Sometimes Pashmina is a blend of pure pashmina wool and silk. This gives strength and durability to the pashmina. As a general rule though, the higher content of pashmina wool, the more expensive the textile.

Pashmina accessories are available in a range of sizes, from "scarf" (12" x 60") to "wrap" or "stole" (28" x 80") to full sized shawl (36" x 80"). Pure pashmina is a rather gauzy, open weave, as the fibre cannot tolerate high tension. The most popular pashmina fabric is a 70% pashmina/30% silk blend, but 50/50 is also common. The 70/30 is tightly woven, has an elegant sheen and drapes nicely, but is still quite soft and light-weight.

A pashmina shawl can range in cost from as little as about $35US for a pure pashmina scarf or up to thousands of $US for a super high-quality pure pashmina shawl. They are known for their softness and warmth. A craze for pashminas in the mid-1990s resulted in high demand for pashminas, so demand exceeded supply.

When pashmina shawls rose into fashion prominence during the mid-'90s, they were marketed dubiously. Cashmere used for pashmina shawls was claimed to be of a superior quality, which was really due to the enhanced sheen and softness that the fabric (cashmere blended with silk) had. In the consuming markets, pashmina shawls were redefined as a shawl/wrap with cashmere and silk, notwithstanding the actual meaning of pashmina. Some shawls marketed as pashmina shawls contain wool, while other unscrupulous companies marketed the man-made fabric viscose as "pashmina" with deceptive marketing statements such as "authentic viscose pashmina".
