In the dark on how to apply for work in Singapore legally and get a social visit pass for that reason? Here are some primary information on Employment Pass Eligibility Certificate (EPEC) which is your key into securing that job in Singapore.
When you enter Singapore as a tourist, you will be given a Social Visit Pass of 14-30days stay. There are chances of extension but only for valid reasons. Chances are, you can only stay 30 days maximum. So to avoid an abrupt end to your job hunting, apply for EPEC to legally stay and job hunt in Singapore for One (1) whole year. This is the government's way of welcoming foreign talents and accepting the contribution they will impart to the country's progress. If you can support yourself financially and have a place to stay, then there's no need to hesitate. Come and experience the clean and green Singapore life, not forgetting safe and convenient.
EPEC submission can be done online. You will need to submit the required documents together with your application, so prepare the softcopy beforehand. After submission you will receive a notification that your application had been received and will be given a reference number so you can check the status online. Approximately, the result will be emailed to you 4-7 days prior submission. Once approved the Certificate will be mailed to the address you supplied. You will receive around 2-3 weeks depending on your location.
The EPEC is valid for 2 years, this means you have 2 years to decide when to come to Singapore. After the 2-year grace period, the certificate is null and void if not used.If you have decided to use it, upon arriving Singapore, you have to go to Immigration & Checkpoitns Authority(ICA) to exchange it for a Long Term Social Visit Pass (LTSVP) to be allowed to stay for one year. Your passport will be stamped with a 1-month visit pass only and you will have to return monthly until you have used the allowed 1-year Social Visit Pass. Hopefully, you dont have to complete it and land a job in your 1st month here. You have to go through a medical examination as a prerequisite for collection of the LTSVP. This medical will only include chest X-ray for detenction of Tuberculosis and HIV test.
Remember EPEC is a one time deal, you can't re-apply again after the 2-year grace period has lapsed or after the 1-year Long Term Social Visit Pass is finished. So be aggressive and secure that post!
